Whenever I revisit vintage Port, I fall in love all over again. It's a thoughtful wine, something that relaxes you, invites conversation, and conjures up stories of what you may have been up to in a great vintage year. The versatility of Port with food is well-known, from savory cheeses, to bittersweet chocolate, Port is like a Swiss army knife!

Saturated black-garnet. Rich, broad and deep nose of fig, prune, dried blackberries and spice, with an overtone of schisty minerality. Voluptuous and rich, with all the depth of crème de cassis to match the still-firm, fine tannins. A beauty of a 1985, built to last. (TJ)20% Drink 2015-2050 Tim Jackson MW Feb/2021. Mid tawny-brick. Brooding, smoky, spicy nose – almost like it’s in a backward phase – with layers of savoury depth emerging. Not full bodied, but full flavoured. Lots of intensity, but again, I don’t think this is giving everything yet. Still a fair weight of tannins as well. It’s at a muscular, somewhat unforgiving stage right now, but I think this will go somewhere interesting. I won’t be broaching my magnum anytime soon!
