"The 2020 vintage is a great success for Chablis and the greater Auxerrois. Despite a warm, dry summer and an early harvest, the wines are impressively chiseled and classic in profile...it’s hard to find obvious analogies for the 2020 vintage, but the quality of the wines is undeniable. At this early stage, 2020 would appear to be the finest Chablis vintage since 2017" - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

In addition to the well-known and sought after names on this list, we're pleased to offer for the first time wines from Dominique et Romain Collet. While a relatively new entity, the family traces their wine roots back to 1792 and has controlled an impressive number of parcels produced from some of Chablis’ top sites including Les Clos, Valmur, Mont de Milieu, Montée de Tonnerre, Vaillons, Montmains, Butteaux, Forêts, Séchet, and Les Pargues. Romain Collet has grown up with these vineyards and in 2008 he took over winemaking for Domaine Jean Collet after a family illness. A year later he started his own Domaine - Romain Collet. At the age of 23, his inaugural vintage was 2009. Farming is organic, and winemaking is traditional with a low-intervention approach using native yeasts. Take our advice - don't wait for the ratings!

"Alcoholic fermentation began quickly and passed without a hitch. The juices showed normal levels of sugar and little malic acid, but enough tartaric acid to keep the wines balanced and fresh, which is the magic formula for Chablis wines. 2020 is a beautiful vintage for Chablis wines." - Vins de Bourgogne

2020 D & R Collet Chablis Valmur Grand Cru (750ML)

The Collet parcel of Valmur (.51ha) was planted in 1973 in the middle of the Grand Cru, with a west-northwest aspect that is unusual. The site is certified organic by the Bureau Veritas. Valmur has depth and aromatic generosity like its powerhouse counterpart to the east, Les Clos. For Chablis, it’s a warm site, and tends to be more floral and fruity, compared with mineral, and is more ready-to-drink than Les Clos. Romain’s unique west exposure allows longer hang-time, and he is often the last to pick. All of Romain’s Grand Cru wines are fermented and aged in used Burgundy barrels, transferred to stainless steel tanks for 2-3 months, then returned to barrel (about 15 months total maturation before bottling).

2020 Laroche Chablis Homme Mort 1er Cru (750ML)
$69.89 BUY NOW

91-94 JM
Just two demi muids. Clear bright lemon and lime colour. Compared to the regular Fourchaume there is a little bit more power, weight of fruit, on the nose, and then this excellent balance between generous white fruit and a light lime infusion for the acidity. Tasted: July 2021 —Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy

2020 Laroche Chablis Les Blanchots Grand Cru (750ML)
$139.89 BUY NOW

96-96 JM
All is made in wood, but not necessarily recent – there are for example some twenty year old demi-muids. Clear brisk pale primrose. The bouquet is also fresh on the white limestone. Powerful with spice behind, an extraordinary intensity from the marl, all in white clothing. A bit of hawthorn here. Yet with a real linear intensity. Really quite special with an interesting nutty touch from the wood. Grégory talks of the powdery texture. Tasted: July 2021—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy

2020 Laroche Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru (750ML)
$169.89 BUY NOW

92-95 JM
A clear paler lemon yellow. This is a very pure, even quite low key Les Clos but it is fine nonetheless, though not singing as much as the Blanchots before it, and doubtless the Reserve de l’Obédience which comes next. Softer flesh across the palate, with weight and concentration. A very long finish, though, so this may just be going through a quiet phase. Tasted: July 2021—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

2020 Rene & Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru (750ML)
$159.89 BUY NOW

93 DE / 92 WA / 92-95 JM / 91-93 BH / 91-93 VM
Lemon and lime, touch of perfume for once, without arresting the strict character of Vaillons, offering more volume than Séchet, with the marl adding a touch more character. Very persistent again. For the second year oin a row the Vaillons stands out within the line-up—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy

2020 Rene & Vincent Dauvissat Chablis La Forest 1er Cru (750ML)
$184.89 BUY NOW

95+ WA / 95 DE / 93-95 JM / 92-94 BH / 91-93 VM
Pale primrose, the nose takes some teasing out but all is there. Then the wine starts to build, some liquorice, lots of stones, succulence without sucrosity, complete with a lovely acidity. Really quite backward but all is there. 12.5% alcohol, and a long term winner—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy

2020 La Chablisienne Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru (750ML)
$39.89 (*Pre-Arrival) BUY NOW

A very Chablis-like nose freely offers up its aromas of quinine, petrol, green fruit and citrus rind. There is fine richness to the seductively textured and mouth coating flavors that terminate in a moderately long, clean and dry finish. While this is perfectly good, this seems to lack the same personality as the best of these 1ers plus it could use better depth. - Burghound
