"Nuits density and Chambolle charm"
- Jancis Robinson

Burgundy's largest Monopole is a true clos surrounded by four walls measuring just under 10 hectares. Mugnier produces both red and white Burgundy from the clos. The Marechale vineyard lies more accurately in the Primeaux area of Nuits which is home to Arlot's Clos de Forets, and Liger Belair's Clos des Grandes Vignes. The history of Clos de la Marechale is a little mysterious, but evidence suggests that the land has some historical connection to Marey-Monge, and the vineyard today is pretty well the geography that it has been since the 1830s. - Ron van Vlaardingen, Burgundy Buyer & Fine Wine Sales Director

Tasting note: An exceptionally pretty, indeed even perfumed, nose reflects aromas of dark currant, poached plum, newly turned earth and subtle anise hints. The refined and intense flavors possess good if not special density along with a beguiling sense of underlying tension that carries over to the dusty, youthfully austere, compact and lingering finish. This is unusually powerful, if a bit less refined, compared to its usual understated character and overall, it is really quite impressive. Outstanding. --Allen Meadows, Burghound

A really deep dense purple black. It may be dark fruit on the nose but with a clean cut sense of precision. Some slightly firm tannins because there is less sucrosity. The equilibrium is impeccable and the weight of fruit suggests a long life ahead. Fresh acidity almost goes without saying. Tasted: November 2021--Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

After tasting the ethereal, medium-bodied 2021, the deep, saturated hue of the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale represents quite a contrast. Exhibiting aromas of sweet cherries, berries, plums and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and supple, with sweet powdery tannins and a concentrated core of fruit. This will reward a bit of patience.--William  Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Cask sample. Deep black ruby. There’s Nuits density on Chambolle charm. Dark red and black fruits, a little ferrous with a high tannic charge. Bruiser no, forceful yes. (MH), Jancis Robinson
