Saving one of the very best to last, as always, it's the utterly superb 2021 Pomerol from the Thienponts, Vieux-Château-Certan. Certainly one of the favorites of the vintage! Situated in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, with Petrus, Lafleur and Le Pin just a stone’s throw away, the VCC vines produce one the of the most highly regarded and sought after wines in the world. Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont made a sensational 2021, which is right up there with the very best wines of the vintage. Of all the wines our tasting team had from barrel in April, this was the one - from raised eyebrows and knowing glances in the barrel room, to enthusiastic discussion in the car and over dinner - this was the wine of the vintage. Absolutely gorgeous.
We're also pleased to offer a very small quantity of one of the top whites of the vintage from one of our favorite properties in Pessac Leognan, Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. A family-owned estate, the vineyards are surrounded by forests in the highest part of the appellation, and the vines stay cool with the wines retaining a remarkable freshness. Domaine de Chevalier have been on a run of good form for the last decade plus producing some of their best-ever wines, and the 2021s continue this streak.
