Before we get to today's releases, there is new press from Neal Martin on what he called "the finest Léoville Barton that I have tasted out of barrel" and gave 96-98 points yesterday - it's not to be missed!

As for today's 2022s, we start with a "gorgeous" St Emilion, the 96-98pt 2022 Barde Haut coming in at only $39.69 per bottle!

“This estate is unquestionably firing on all cylinders today, and the wines continue to represent superb values in top-notch Bordeaux.” - Jeb Dunnuck

Located on the upper limestone plateau of Saint Emilion, on the eastern side of appellation, Château Barde-Haut was purchased late in 2000 by Hélène Garcin and Patrice Lévêque, who also run Clos l’Eglise in Pomerol, Château Haut Bergey in Pessac Leognan, Château Poesia in Saint-Emilion as well as Bodega Poesia in Mendoza, Argentina. Situated near Troplong Mondot & Pavie Macquin, Château Barde-Haut covers 17 hectares (42 acres) and is planted to 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The 2022 will be long-lived and is a sure bet in this remarkable vintage.

We are also excited to bring you the 2022 range from maverick producer Jonathan Maltus, which includes an "ethereal" 97-98pt Le Dome.

"Jonathan Maltus presented a compelling set of 2022s." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Jonathan created Le Dome in 1996 in St-Emilion, and was catapulted into the spotlight with his 2010 which scored 100 points from Robert Parker. Since then he has added to his portfolio and produced a string of high scoring wines that have gained a cult following. In contrast to traditional classified Bordeaux, it is a breath of fresh air to consider the wines made by Jonathan Maltus, an outspoken Englishman who has championed single-vineyard winemaking and used a more Napa-style approach to marketing his wines, creating ardent supporters in the process. His first wine, Le Dome, is situated near Chateau Angelus in Saint-Emilion, and is unusually high in Cabernet Franc, earning a great many accolades. The old vine Cabernet Franc brings a freshness and structure to his bold style.

"2022 is certainly the greatest overall vintage I have ever tasted." - Andy Lench of Bordeaux Wine Locators on his 37th vintage tasted en primeur.

"This is the 40th year I have tasted barrel samples in Bordeaux, but I have never come across anything like the 2022 vintage. It was one of the hottest and driest growing seasons in the history of France’s most famous wine region, yet it produced thousands of opulent and structured but still fresh and balanced wines. They are exciting...it was a joyous and fascinating experience to taste so many special wines. And there was high quality from top to bottom. The 2022 vintage really is something unique." - James Suckling

2022 Barde Haut (Saint Emilion)
96-98 JD / 94-96 WI / 94-96 VM / 95 JA / 94-95 JS / 91-93+ WA

I was blown away by the quality of the 2022 Château Barde-Haut, and this 80/20 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc does everything right in the vintage. Revealing a deep purple hue as well as stunning aromatics of cassis, spring flowers, black cherries, and truffle, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness and delivers fine-grained tannins and flawless balance. Pure, bright, and lively, yet also deep, concentrated, and textured, it's a brilliant bottle of wine in the making. - Jeb Dunnuck

The 2022 Barde-Haut is gorgeous. Rich and explosive...This is an impressive showing. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

2022 Le Dome (Saint Emilion)

97-98 JS / 96-98 WI / 95-97+ JD / 94-96 VM

Made from 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, the 2022 Le Dome is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose is very closed to start off, needing a lot of patience and swirling to coax out notes of kirsch, juicy blackberries, blueberry compote, and underbrush, leading to wafts of menthol, rose oil, iron ore, and cinnamon toast. The big, concentrated, full-bodied palate is super-concentrated and built like a skyscraper, delivering a solid backbone of very firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness to support the generous fruit, finishing very long and minerally. pH 3.72. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent

2022 Vieux Chateau Mazerat (Saint Emilion)

94-96 JD / 94-95 JS / 93-95 WI / 92-94 VM / 93 JA

The 2022 Vieux Château Mazerat is a dark, virile wine. Black cherry, tobacco, espresso, incense, leather and sweet pipe tobacco open first. In 2022, Vieux Château Mazerat is quite aromatic, with layers of nuance that continue to open with time in the glass. Pliant and dynamic, Vieux Château Mazerat is very nicely done. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s natural breadth and textural intensity. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
