2016 Castello di Neive Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano

(750ML) $49.89 - In Stock - Buy Now

17% below market average!

The vineyard of Santo Stefano was registered in 1742, and it was noted in 1767 that the "black wine" from the “Cassina di S. Stefano” was recognized as unique, meriting separate vinification and storage.  “Nebiolo di Neive 1857” won a gold medal at the National Exhibition in 1861, and the oldest bottles in the Castello di Neive cellar are a 1904 Pinot di Neive and a 1925 “Nebiolo” di Neive. The Santo Stefano vineyard was used exclusively by Bruno Giacosa for many years, but since the 2012 harvest, the vineyard has only been used for wines from the Castello di Neive wines of the Stupino family.

“Rose, violet, just-tilled vineyard soil and perfumed berry are just some of the aromas you’ll find on this dazzling, fragrant red. The elegant, delicious palate is chock-full of elegance and flavor, delivering juicy Morello cherry, raspberry compote, cake spice and a balsamic note. It boasts fantastic tension and finesse, and will be even better with more bottle age. Gorgeous.” Wine Enthusiast

The legendary Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, consistently creates amazing wines, not just the crus. Decanter Wines of the Year 2021
The 2017 Barbaresco shows just how appealing this vintage can be. In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mint are open in the glass, but it is the wine’s seductive radiance that wins the day. Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo are the main vineyards used for the straight Barbaresco. The 2017 is such an inviting and expressive wine. Don’t miss it! Antonio Galloni – Vinous Media

2017 GD Vajra Langhe Freisa Kyè

(750ML) $36.89 - In Stock - Buy Now

8% below market average!

Kyè is from the local dialect, meaning “Who is it?”. “It” is Freisa, a nearly forgotten grape that is a relative of Nebbiolo, probably its parent, capable of producing “mesmerizing” wines. Freisa comes from the Latin for strawberry, and with age the wine almost indistinguishable from Nebbiolo. Ernest Hemingway expressed curiosity towards Freisa in Farewell to Arms noting a ‘clear, red, tannic and lovely’ wine.

The 2017 Langhe Freisa Kyè is super intense in this hot vintage. The wine draws upon those vintage conditions to present an extra dark appearance, with aromas of Morello cherry, dried blackberry and spice. I always get a subtle note of black pepper with the popular Freisa grape. The mouthfeel is rich, and you can really sink your teeth into this cheerful and unusual red from Piedmont.—Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
