The release of 2020s out of Bordeaux ramps up today with some big wines from both the Right and Left Bank!

We are delighted to offer the 2020s from the stable of Gerard Perse, including the potentially perfect 99-100pt Château Pavie, which James Suckling claims “promises true greatness”In the most recent classification, Pavie was promoted to the coveted position of Grand Cru Classe A status. This elite club consists of just four properties: Pavie, Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Angelus.

Also released today is the brilliant St. Emilion, 98-99pt Chateau Angelus. Apart from being James Bond’s red wine of choice, Château Angelus is unquestionably one of the best and most desired wines in the world.

In addition one of the most sought after Saint Juliens came out today, 96-97pt Chateau Leoville Barton, one of the best-known and popular Medoc estates. Our colleagues in the UK had the pleasure of tasting the 2020 at their office two weeks ago and it was "absolutely stellar - a classic vintage with polished, ripe tannins and a formidable structure. It perfectly showcased the brilliance of their famous St. Julien terroir." Sadly, production was 25% less than usual in 2020, so don't hesitate on this one!

Additional releases of interest are noted below. Don't miss this opportunity to secure your allocations at the opening prices.

In addition to high praise coming from James Suckling, Decanter and Jancis Robinson, we are hearing positive remarks about 2020s from our contacts on the ground in Bordeaux who commented on the overall "freshness" of the vintage.

As always, our Futures Landing Page will be updated with new wines daily, and we'll be sending offers on the most compelling wines as they are released...stay tuned!

2020 Chateau Pavie (Saint Emilion)
99-100 JS / 97 DE / 18 JR

Power and elegance combined - Absolute precision - One of the best yet. - James Lawther MW, Jancis Robinson .com

The aromas are already exceptional, showing crushed-stone, limestone and salt character to the dark fruit and bark. It’s full-bodied, yet agile. Floats on the palate, then kicks in with loads of ultra fine tannins. The intensity and verve of this wine promises true greatness. - James Suckling

The Cabernets dominate the blend on the aromatics, and you can really see they are moving the needle on the architecture and sculpting of this wine. A ton of concentration on the nose and upfront, but it is well balanced by damson and blackberry, and has a sense of energy, uplift and clear minerality. This shows the limestone terroir in a way that, with the best will in the world, the more concentrated style of Pavie just didn't do. There is density and glamour, with layers of black chocolate, graphite and liquorice. It is pretty disarming overall, and will age extremely well. 3.61pH. A yield of 31hl/ha, average age of vine 49 years. 75% new oak. - Jane Anson, Decanter

2020 Chateau Angelus (Saint Emilion)

98-99 JS / 97 DE / 18 JR

This is wonderfully refined and balanced with such pretty depth. Full-bodied and so polished and pure. Subtle at first, then it takes off and keeps coming. Sophisticated. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc. - James Suckling

Supple damson fruits, I love the aromatics on this and the striking fruits. Silky in texture, balanced and elegant, there are big tannins that slowly but surely creep up on you through the palate. This is a sleek, poised, and confidently-constructed Angélus, with depth to the olive, chocolate, cassis body and a crushed mint leaf kiss on the finish. As often with this vintage it is not an exuberant hug, it is more about discreet power and gorgeous stealing-up of flavours and textures giving depth and subtle power. 3.62pH, aged in large sized oak cass and oak barrels. A yield of 37hl/ha. - Jane Anson, Decanter

2020 Chateau Leoville Barton (Saint Julien)

96-97 JS / 94 DE / 18 JR

A full-bodied red that builds on the palate with lots of blackberry and blueberry character, as well as chocolate. Mineral and graphite undertones. Chewy, yet very integrated. Excellent, as expected. - James Suckling

Lustrous purple. Minerally, stony, saline nose. Really remarkably opulent on palate entry which almost distracts from those massive tannins underneath. There's just a suggestion of vintage port tannins here (not the sweetness). Very fine winemaking indeed. I have to admit I was tempted to swallow this, it was so majestic. I don't remember being as bowled over by a Léoville Barton at this early stage before. Lovely, confident, persistent finish. Such grace! - Jancis Robinson

2020 Chateau Croix De Labrie (Saint Emilion)

98-99 JS

The focus and texture of this wine is really something. It’s totally transparent with blackberries, blueberries, earth, stone and mushrooms. Flowers too. Full-bodied with firm tannins that give super form and length to this. Freshness. Almost all merlot with a tiny dash of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Perhaps the best ever? Certainly at the same level as the 2019. About 14,000 bottles made. - James Suckling
