White Rhone from the famed La Crau area
in Chateauneuf du Pape
The Estate belongs to one of the oldest families in the region, whose roots go back to the 15th century. In the 17th century, Hélène Barberini, a descendant of the illustrious Tuscan family of the same name, married Claude Martin, owner of a vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their grandson would give a huge boost to âLa Solitudeâ by creating the first label for the Appellation. Thus, âle Vin de la Solitudeâ became a symbol of quality and began to be exported, allowing a great terroir to come into its own. Eight generations later the estate is still a family affair and is now run by Florent Lancon.
This historic cuvée of the Estate, produced since the 17th century, is a blend of different soils and varietals situated on the coolest terroirs. The Grenache blanc grapes come from the âLa Crauâ plateau, while the Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, and Picpoul varietals are grown in the âVallon de la Solitudeâ. The Roussanne and Grenache blanc grapes are fermented and aged in barrels on fine lees while the other varietals mature in vats to retain all their freshness.

The 2019 Domaine de la Solitude Blanc offers a striking interplay of tension and power. Bright citrus, white flower and mineral nuances appear first, followed by hints of almond, crushed flowers and mint that add shades of complexity. It is one of the more vibrant 2019s I tasted. As such, I expect it will need at least a few years in bottle to be at its best.-- Antonio Galloni â Vinous Media
A blend of 40% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, and the balance Grenache Blanc and Picpoul, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc offers a lighter gold color as well as a classic bouquet of honeyed citrus, white orchard fruits, honeysuckle, and acacia flowers. This nicely textured, medium to full-bodied white has an expansive texture, solid mid-palate depth, and a clean, dry finish that will make it shine at the dinner table. Drink it any time over the coming 7-8 years. Jeb Dunnuck
40% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 20% Grenache Blanc, 5% Bourboulenc, 5% Picpoul Blanc. Aged in 40% new barrels and the rest in stainless steel for 10 months.
Tasted blind. Smoky and mealy at the same time â with some green fruit. Weighty mouthfeel and a long clean finish. A lovely mineral kick and stony note on the finish. Quite effortless. (AC) Alistair Cooper MW â JancisRobinson.com
