Always one of Etienne and Mathilde Grivot's stand-out Premier Cru reds, this is not the most immediate of their cuvées at a young age, often displaying some grip and tannic backbone as well as a hint of meaty reduction, but the fruit concentration and depth is remarkable here, supported by chalky minerality and scented 30% new wood. Wonderfully patrician and well-structured. Drinking Window 2025 - 2035 âTim Atkin, Decanter
An intense, deep, but not exaggerated purple. Dense dark and backward nose, brooding. There is an immense intensity of fruit here followed by some firmer tannins, this is very concentrated. Tasted: November 2019 âJasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Violet and blackberry aromas and flavors are effusive, graced by accents of cinnamon and black pepper, in this plush red. There is a nice beam of acidity keeping it focused and the aftertaste lingers. Best from 2023 through 2036. 90 cases imported. â BS, Wine Spectator
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru, a particular favorite of Etienne Grivot, was one of the crus that showed some reduction on the nose, rendering it difficult to read at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite focused and precise, with red and black fruit tinged with brown spices and a tang of orange peel toward the finish. It is missing just a little weight at the moment but it should spread its wings once in bottle. âNeal Martin, Vinous Media
Tasting note: here too whiffs of sandalwood and lavender sit atop the cool, pure and airy aromas of mostly dark berry fruit that are trimmed in lovely spice nuances. The racy, intense and beautifully well-detailed flavors exude a lovely and bracing minerality, all wrapped in a refined and classy finish that displays fine depth and persistence. Outstanding.-- Allen Meadows, Burghound
