One of the best Vosne-Romanée village reds I tried in 2018

Jeannie Cho Lee MW, Decanter

There are still some great Burgundy deals to be had from some of the region's best producers. Etienne and his daughter Mathilde Grivot's village Vosne Romanee is one of them. This is a blend of 7 vineyards primarily in Aux Ormes. The plantings cover an area of about 2.77 hectares going back to 1964.

Enticing and intense aromas of black cherry, black currant, mint and spicy oak mark this rich red. It's open and inviting, with fine harmony and length. Drink now through 2033. 295 cases imported. — BS, Wine Spectator

Even at the village level, the 2018 wines from Grivot are intense and beautiful. Enticing nose with ripe raspberries, cherries and crushed violets. Suave on the palate and quite intense with velvety tannins and a lingering finish. One of the best Vosne-Romanée village reds I tried in 2018. Destemmed and matured for 18 months in barrique, 25% new.Drinking Window 2023 – 2031—Jeannie Cho Lee MW, Decanter

Picked on two dates, the second having higher sugar levels but better pH. Pretty perfumed pink. Very sensual, sweet ripe cherry fruit, raspberries, quite high octane but still in balance. Some sucrosity. Tasted: November 2019 Jasper Morris –Inside Burgundy

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village, matured in 20–25% new oak, has a well-defined, almost airy bouquet of red cherries, cranberry and sous-bois aromas that develop rose petal notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening and quite juicy in style. An attractive peppery finish extends the aftertaste. Very fine. Neal Martin – Vinous Media

Lightish for a Grivot wine and rather playful! Rich fruit and fine tannin. Certainly got Vosne’s energy. Jancis Robinson

Note: from 7 different vineyards the most important of which is Aux Ormes

Tasting note: A more elegant and certainly spicier and cooler nose slowly reveals its array of various red berries and exotic tea scents. There is reasonably good energy to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a rich and caressing mouthfeel that terminate in delicious, exuberant and almost gulpable finish. This highly seductive effort will almost undoubtedly tighten up once it's bottled. --Allen Meadow, Burghound
