For a wine showing this ripeness of fruit, it has nonetheless managed to retain admirable finesse. Could be a star.

- Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy

The quality of wines from Clos de Bèze is considered higher and more consistent than those from Chambertin but the best wines from these two vineyards are the trophies of any fine cellar. Beze has rich, perfumed aromas but more delicacy than straight Chambertin. Although 2018 is considered to be a warm, ripe vintage, the best wines always transcend the difficulties of any year.

The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru includes 30% whole-bunch fruit, though this is the one grand cru where you cannot detect the stem addition, just the copious dark cherry, raspberry, cedar and undergrowth aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is supple on the entry, the acidity neatly counterbalancing the intensity of the fruit. This Clos-de-Bèze has real grip and an arching structure on the finish, suggesting that it will be a seriously long-lived wine. Excellent.-- Neal Martin, Vinous Media

Dense black purple, the nose is really quite exciting, softly ripe of course with very dark fruit, luxurious in the mouth but the terroir still reasserts itself with a stricter precision. For a wine showing this ripeness of fruit, it has nonetheless managed to retain admirable finesse. Could be a star Tasted: November 2019 –Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The 2014 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru, four barrels this year compared to just two barrels in 2012, has a mineral-led bouquet that is very well defined, stylistically between the Charmes- and Latricières Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with (again) very fine tannins. I adore the symmetry here, the elegance and razor-sharp precision threaded all the way through to the finish. Pierre Duroché opined that this is his best cuvée in 2014, better than in 2012 and 2013, and he might well be right.--Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

An exuberantly spicy and attractively fresh nose offers up notes of red currant, essence of plum and ample floral influences, all of which is surrounded by much more subtle wood influence. The refined and pure middle weight flavors possess excellent delineation and verve while delivering very fine complexity and persistence on the youthfully austere finish. Like many of the wines in the range, this is not especially dense but it is beautifully harmonious and well-balanced plus the dense but fine tannins should assure a long life. Don’t Miss – Allen Meadows Burghound

2016 Bruno Clair Chambertin Clos de Beze

96 VM / 94-97 JM / 93-96 BH

$399.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

The 2016 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a generous and pleasing nose with scents of strawberry preserve, crushed stone, rose petals and subtle orange-blossom. This is refined and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins. Beautifully balanced, this has a symmetry that is beguiling and classic. A little austere finish suggests it will benefit from several years in bottle. Utterly beguiling with enormous ageing potential. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
