" Scented, Balanced and Ethereal - Accomplished Stuff

                                       Tim Atkin - Decanter

"This is Already Excellent and Potentially Outstanding."

                                    Allen Meadows - Burghound

Joseph Drouhin owns several Premier Cru parcels. Since they are so small, these Premier Cru vineyards (Noirots, Hauts Doix, Borniques, Plantes, Combottes) are harvested and vinified together. The name given to this wine is therefore Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru  since the components of this "cuvée" are all Premier Crus.

Veronique Drouhin's tasting notes are as follows - "Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit".

This is a classic 'cuvée ronde', combining fruit from six different Premiers Crus to produce a stylish example of what Véronique Drouhin calls the 'cashmere of Burgundy'. Scented, balanced and ethereal, it's a transparent expression of Chambolle's range of terroirs, with sweet summer berry flavours and fine, velvety tannins. Accomplished stuff.Drinking Window 2023 - 2032 Tim Atkin - Decanter.com

Dried-strawberry and black-cherry aromas with hints of dried cherries and orange blossom. It’s full-bodied with round, integrated and fine tannins. Tight and reserved on the finish. Drink after 2023. James Suckling

More evident wood can be found on the spicy poached plum, cassis and violet-suffused nose. The sleek, supple and attractively detailed medium weight flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the lingering finish that immediately firms up as it sits on the palate. This is already excellent and potentially outstanding. Sweet Spot – Outstanding – Allen Meadows - Burghound

Dense purple, with a plump nose of dark ripe fruit. Fully ripe, with relatively lush, dark fruit covering the tannins happily. This sample is not singing in the way that this wine often has in other vintages though. Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is also promising, exhibiting aromas of rich berry fruit, dark chocolate and creamy new oak. It's medium to full-bodied, velvety and supple, with an ample core of sweet fruit, ripe acids and melting tannins. This sample showed slight signs of fatigue, so I suspect that the final cuvée may make my score seem conservative. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate

Dense purple with a lighter rim. The bouquet offers ripe fruit with good intensity. Some mulberry, with gorgeous dense fruit throughout, some saline notes, spicy too. It does have the majesty of Musigny. Finishes with greater freshness, so perhaps I am undervaluing this wine. It would have shown even better with a fresher nose. Tasted: November 2019 Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy

The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is slightly lighter than the Bonnes-Mares tasted alongside and has a more detailed, precise bouquet of intense blackberry, mulberry, sous-bois and light charcoal aromas that gain power with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, very sensual and seductive. The polished and lightly spiced finish is pure class. Outstanding. Neal Martin – Vinous Media

Tasting note: A highly restrained nose requires plenty of swirling to coax the super-floral and spicy aromas to reveal nuances of plum liqueur, red cherry and sandalwood. The marvelously refined middle weight flavors possess a beguiling satin-like texture yet there is no lack of punch on the wonderfully long, complex and well-balanced finish. Like the Amoureuses, this stunningly classy effort is a knockout that should also age effortlessly over the long-term. Don’t Miss – Burghound

Sensual' is the word Véronique Drouhin uses to describe this remarkable wine and there is certainly something fleshy, enticing and engaging about this polished, refined Grand Cru bottling. Made with 40% whole bunches and 30% new wood, it's bright, perfumed and very silky with lacy tannins and no sign of the heat of the vintage. Decadent stuff. Tim Atkin - Decanter.com

This is a very complex and assertive wine that is so enticingly floral, spicy and fragrant that you can smell earthy notes, as well as sweetly smoky nuances with a full compliment of ripe red cherries and blood-orange zest. The palate has a very plush, very long, deep and powerful style with rich red cherries, framed in effortlessly long, plush and seamlessly ripe tannins. So long, velvety and approachable. It also has the balance and structure to age. James Suckling

Tasting note: This is perhaps the most floral-infused wine in the range with terrific layering that includes perfumed notes of exotic tea, clove, red and dark fruit and a whiff of sandalwood. The refined, markedly stony and wonderfully delineated flavors possess a beguiling underlying tension before culminating in a palate coating, balanced and firm finale. This is exceptionally classy and I very much like the Zen-like sense of harmony. In short, this is a knockout. Don’t Miss – Outstanding – Allen Meadows – Burghound

Dense purple with a heady nose, also with plenty of oak. There are some plummy notes in the bouquet, but actually a liquid dark raspberry prevails. Really long fine finish, a perfume which sings in the glass. A lot of whole cluster here, nearly half, which integrates beautifully. I think the bouquet will be that much more refined by the time the wine reaches bottle. Tasted: November 2019 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy
