"What should be a masterpiece of wine in due time." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Corton Charlemagne begins to drink beautifully by age 10. Of course, these being in magnum, they will cellar considerably longer. Finding primo magnums of Grand Cru white Burgundy can be a daunting task but rest assured these have been tucked away in our temperature controlled facility and are perfect examples of laser focused Corton Charlemagne.

Palish bright yellow. Tight, vibrant nose offers white peach, pineapple, nut oils and brown spices. Juicy and sweet but kept under wraps today by powerful acidity. Still, this remarkably intense wine does not come across as austere owing the full ripeness of the fruit. Wonderfully classy Corton-Charlemagne with a penetrating, dusty, extremely long finish. This held up brilliantly in the recorked bottle. I suspect this wine will shut down in the next couple years. - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media

In contrast to its two grands crus stable mates, this has already eaten almost all of its wood which allows the ripe green fruit, stone, apple and subtle spice hints to shine. There is very good richness to the precise and overtly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a stunningly long and cuts-like-a-knife finish. This bone dry effort is almost painfully intense and there is a salinity that adds depth to what should be a masterpiece of wine in due time. - Allen Meadows, Burghound - Drink 2020+

(production was half of normal in 2016; aged in 30% new oak and bottled at the beginning of April of this year): Pale yellow-green. High-pitched aromas of citrus peel, menthol, lavender and white pepper. Extremely tight without coming across as austere, conveying striking purity to its bracing flavors of grapefruit pith, lemon and crushed stone. Adamant minerality gives this very dense wine terrific inner-mouth tension and yet there's an element of leavening sweetness here as well, not to mention compelling floral perfume throughout. This wonderfully smooth, rich yet weightless wine really dances on the palate, spreading out on the unflagging back end to saturate every square millimeter of the mouth. Cellarmaster Emmanuel Hautus compared this wine to the 2009 in its combination of richness, early appeal and potential longevity. Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

Fine pale primrose with a light green tint. A faint yet noble reduction intertwined with intense fruit and the expected stoniness. A softness is also apparent. The oak works well in the blend though, with lemon and stony notes at the back. Some greengage and some riper plums. Middleweight plus, good grip, and certainly the necessary persistence and flavour profile. Jasper Morris

This was an impressive set of wines from Domaine Bonneau du Martray, where I tasted with new cellar master Emmanuel Hautus. The wines show increasing coherence and precision, and some subtle refinements in cellar technique, lead me to believe that they will age more dependably than has sadly been the case at this address in the last two decades. Impressive investment in the vineyards—above all, extensive replanting of the Domaine's Pinot Noir holdings—also bode well for the future. In the near future, once the new team has a few more vintages under their belt, I'll be reporting more thoroughly on developments here. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

2018 de Villaine Bouzeron Aligote

$99.89/magnum (In Stock) Buy Now

Aromas of green apple, pear, white flowers and beeswax introduce the 2018 Bouzeron, a medium-bodied, racy wine with an elegantly satiny attack, bright acids and a long, precise finish. This is a touch more demonstrative out of the gates than the 2017 rendition, but it retains plenty of cut in this warm year and should age well. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate

Organic. Bottled. This Aligoté is quite floral on the nose. And very satisfying, utterly mouth-filling and pure. Alas it’s not cheap but it is a serious, very well-made wine with very light bitterness (not a fault in this case) on the end. Jancis Robinson
