The first clos and first terroir to be vinified and blended separately, Clos des Goisses is unique and instantly recognizable for its extremely steep slope. Its walled 5.5 hectares vineyard is not only the oldest in Champagne, but also the steepest, at 45°. This explains the origin of its name: in the local dialect, Gois means a very steep slope. This exceptional terroir with chalky soil is ideally situated facing due South, on Mareuil-sur-Ay’s best hillside.

The blend for the 2009 vintage has a slightly higher proportion of Pinot Noir at 61% versus the 2008 vintage at 55% Pinot Noir. The winemaker's notes suggest that the 09 vintage had more sunshine approaching levels of the 2002 vintage.

The 2009 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses is showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with aromas of warm bread, fresh peach, ripe citrus fruit, lemon confit and fresh pastry. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a textural attack that segues into a muscular, tight-knit core that's multidimensional and intensely mineral, concluding with a long finish. Only 20,000 bottles were produced—in other words, half the legal yield. This is a serious, structured Clos des Goisses that transcends the vintage's tendency to facility, and it will merit and reward extended bottle age. Stephan Reinhardt– The Wine Advocate

The 2009 Clos des Goisses has been very tight in two recent tastings, which is probably a very good thing for its long-term prospects, but less so for readers seeking the immediacy that is common in so many 2009 Champagnes. White flowers, orchard fruit, mint white pepper and citrus peel add to the wine’s bright profile. Readers should plan on being extremely patient, as the 2009 Goisses does not show much, if any, early appeal, even if the density and textural persistence of the great years are both there. The 2009 is 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2018.-- Antonio Galloni – Vinous Media

Based on the regular Clos des Goisses but blended with a certain percentage of red Pinot Noir from the same vineyard, the 2007 Clos des Goisses Just Rosé Brut has a lovely apricot color and shows a beautifully precise and fruity nose with chalky-mineral notes on the nose. On the palate, this is a highly elegant, refined and complex Rosé with good texture and a very long and complex but also refined finish. Disgorged November 2017. 2,039 bottles made. Tasted April 2018. SR - The Wine Advocate

55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay. Disgorged November 2017. Dosage 4.5g/l. 6% red wine from Clos des Goisses lieux-dit Valofroys in this. Just 2,039 bottles made. More expensive than the white 2009. Pale copper-tinted white wine colour,  and tiny persistent bead again. Intense nose with strong mushroom savour. And then much fresher on the palate than one expects from the rich, developed, fungal nose. Really very exciting.  On the nose definitely more advanced than the 2009 white but also designed for food - very much a champagne with a story. Long and on the nose definitely a Pinot rosé rather than a tinted white champagne. Jancisrobinson.com
