“Distinctive and a definite addition to the champagne canon” - Jancis Robinson

For almost 20 years as a broker in Champagne, Alan Thiénot combed the region’s rolling hills in search of only the finest grapes for prominent, centuries-old Champagne Houses, and year after year honed his knowledge of the Champagne region. A family story with far-reaching roots, as his own father had previously managed Champagne Irroy, while his grandfather, a glassmaker, crafted high-quality bottles. And this is how Alain has created wines in his image, that express everything he holds dear; the refinement of elegant freshness and multiple layers of balanced nuances.

Committed to share everything he holds dear, Alain Thiénot has dedicated to his children a champagne with exemplary qualities, sourced in Avize in the heart of the Cote des Blancs. Every year, only a few thousand bottles of Vigne aux Gamins, a single-parcel champagne, are crafted with care.

Racy and thrilling, this hits the spot in terms of direct and punchy yellow fruit flavours - lemon, grapefruit, orange and quince with a crisp texture and fine bubbles that fill the mouth. Such tension and precision. It has a sharp yet also mouthwatering acidity giving you a push pull of intensity and generosity. It's super dry and gives a raciness to the overall impression with very tiny hints of sweetness providing the round feel that's so appealing. Shines brightly and still feels so youthful, such a long ageing potential yet. I like the energy and the persistence here, it's clean and finessed. Not trying too hard but so easy to drink. 100% Chardonnay of white 90% comes from grands crus vineyards. Dosage 4g/L. Disgorged February 2022. - GH, Decanter

Peach, white pear, citrus, slate, the focus is very much on young fresh fruits open the opening beats, then richer honeysuckle, candied lemons, gingerbread, brioche and biscuit comes in with a good 30 minutes of opening. Lovely energy, excellent quality. Disgorged March 2022 after 11 years ageing on the lees. 4g/l dosage, 3300 bottles + 500 magnums of this extremely rare Champagne, one that celebrates vintage variation. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

Admirably informative back label. 90% grand cru Chardonnay mainly from Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Disgorged March 2022 after 11 years' ageing. Dosage 4 g/l. 3,300 bottles produced. No malo.
Lots of development on the nose. I should imagine this was quite challenging to taste early in its life but is just reaching a point where the tension is not too demanding and the wine now has great life and citrus fruit. Perhaps not quite as persistent as the 2008 Cuvée Alain Thiénot but distinctive and a definite addition to the champagne canon. Tastes bone dry in the lemon/lime spectrum. Clean as a whistle. It's just coming into its own and can offer bracing precision now. Not for hedonists but it should please purists. Long. - Jancis Robinson
