Rudi Pichler's family established itself in the Wachau in 1731 where they were farmers of livestock and crops. Only later did they become involved in wine-making, and now Rudi Pichler has become of of the "elite" producers in the region making wines of comparable quality to FX Pichler. Rudi has a stringent philosophy of winemaking that very much reflects terroir and the creation of balanced wines with very little manipulation or intervention.
Gruner Veltliner is a fascinating white wine that pairs so well with modern international cuisine. It has become a favorite among sommeliers who are eager to suggest Gruner Veltliner as an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or white Burgundy. A great wine to pair with seafood, chicken, and curries, Gruner is a bone dry white that has all of the energy of great riesling, but the complexity of fine Burgundy. As many wine-lovers balance out their collections with more white wines, Gruner is cellar-worthy candidate to put into the mix.

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Achleiten Smaragd is from over 80-year-old vines, rooting Gföhler gneiss. An initial icker of citrus sets an immediate tone of freshness. The palate takes this freshness and adds a beautifully green savor of chervil crushed in cream alongside lime zest and white peppercorns.
