The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Vieilles Vignes is absolutely superb, bursting from the glass with aromas of earthy cherries and berry fruit, mingled with notions of rose petal, smoked meats and blood orange. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and multidimensional, with excellent concentration, ripe acids and a strikingly long, penetrating finish. Production was low this year, but this Sentiers is well worth a special effort to seek out. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate
Intense and smoky, with spicy oak wrapping around a core of black cherry and blackberry flavors. Shows a textural density and fluidity that plays out on the long finish. Best from 2023 through 2043. 40 cases imported. — BS – Wine Spectator
Tasting note: Aromas of dark currant and plum are nuanced by plenty of earth and spice elements that slide gracefully into finer but still muscular flavors that flash a bit more minerality on the dusty, focused and balanced finish. At present this does not possess superior complexity but the underlying material appears to be sufficiently fine that more depth should eventually develop and my projected range assumes that it will.
