The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots was the last wine in the cellar to finish its malolactic fermentation, and its bouquet of smoky blackberries and cherries was still comparatively unformed. Tasting note: A decidedly ripe yet still fresh nose speaks of menthol, plenty of spice elements, violet and dark currant. As is typically the case, there is more volume and power to the more concentrated and robust flavors that possess an opulent mid-palate that contrasts with the firmly tannic finish that flirts with rusticity.
