When I tasted the 2015 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos from barrel, I opined that it was not showing at its best. Now in bottle, it reveals a well-defined bouquet with scents of white flowers, granite, smoke and a subtle walnut scent emerging with time. The palate is very well balanced with good body and presence in the mouth, fresh and mineral driven with a tightly wound finish that suggests it will provide 15-20 years drinking pleasure. Tasting note: A reserved and ripe nose features white orchard fruit and floral notes set off by deft touches of wood and citrus peel. There is excellent richness to the overtly powerful and concentrated medium plus weight flavors that possess ample amounts of dry extract that confer a textured feel to the impressively intense and mouth coating finish. Light-medium yellow. Pineapple, wet stone and a suggestion of flinty silex on the nose. Dry, classic and backward but comes across as riper than the Valmur even though these grapes were picked very early, on September 3 and 4. The tightly coiled citrus fruit, wild herb and crushed stone flavors will need time in bottle to unwind and gain in texture. This extract-rich grand cru finishes with rising length and powerful citric cut, with some unabsorbed CO2 giving it a slight dry edge. Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
