The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc Sous Frétille 1er Cru comes from east-facing vines. This charming bouquet has hints of melted wax infusing the green, limey fruit. East facing. Three barrels, one of them new. This has an excellent tightly wound tension to it, all in white fruit, just the right acidity, and barely any sign of the oak. Tasting note: Here too there is just enough reduction to push the white fleshed fruit scents trimmed in subtle wood nuances to the background. There is again excellent delineation and verve to the delicious medium weight flavors that also conclude in a lingering and intensely mineral-driven finish where a touch of bitter lemon arises. Note that while this could be enjoyed young, a few years of keeping should serve to add depth. Lovely and understated in style, indeed this is very Pernand in basic character.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
