This is stylish and seductive, its perfumed aromas evoking sandalwood, vanilla, cherry, raspberry, mineral and toasty oak. Juicy and balanced, with an extra dimension that kicks into overdrive on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2027 through 2045. —B.S., Wine Spectator
A lightly purple in colour, with fresher dark red berries on the nose. There is a graceful sense of harmony to this wine which fills out the middle of the palate very nicely. Strawberries and ripe raspberries, with a structure built on fine-grained tannins and just enough acidity. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted Oct 2023. 4 stars. —Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Note: a .55 ha monopole
Producer note: Mark O'Connell, owner and winemaker of this 5 ha domaine, described 2022 as "a vintage of excitement and relief. Excitement because the quality of the wines was evident from the first day of picking. And relief because after three years of small crops, we finally had some wine for our customers.
Tasting note: Much like the Carelle, the expressive nose is airy, cool and super-fresh with its essence of red berry, spice and rose petal scents. The wonderfully sleek, precise and stony middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension along with a gorgeous mouthfeel, all wrapped in a firm, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. This is a classic Volnay of lace and grace. Sweet Spot. Outstanding.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
