The 2021 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is a riveting Sauternes. Orange confit, lemon peel, white flowers, tangerine oil and mint soar across the palate. Exotic and floral overtones develop later, adding to the wine's sheer allure. Even with all of its plushness, the 2021 remains light on its feet. An explosion of heady aromas and flavors punctuates the dazzling finish. Sadly, brutal conditions wiped out most of the crop. Yields were a miserly 6-7 hectoliters per hectare.
This is dense and intense with salted caramel, spice, white pepper and dried caramel. Full-bodied and medium-sweet with a long, flavorful finish. Very spicy at the end. - James Suckling
Pale lemon-yellow in color, the 2021 Clos Haut-Peyraguey features zippy citrus notes of key lime pie and candied orange peel with underlying scents of clover honey, freshly grated ginger, and lime blossoms with a waft of sea spray. The palate has lovely vivacity and freshness, with a long, mineral-laced finish. Residual sugar 142 g/l. - Lisa Perotti Brown, Wine Independent
Another beautiful Sauternes is the 2021 Clos Haut Peyraguey, which is based on 60% Semillon and 40% Sauvignon Blanc. It has full-bodied richness and depth as well as bright acidity, a clean, elegant mouthfeel, terrific overall balance, and a great nose of honeyed oranges, peach, mint, and honeyed flowers. Concentrated, vibrant, and balanced, it's a beauty in the making. - Jeb Dunnuck
