The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud is a real stunner, and one of the great under the radar gems on the Right Bank. The 2022 is an especially rich, heady wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, leather and gravel build in a heady, sumptuous wine that delivers the goods. The look and feel of this wine is one of quiet confidence, beautifully made wine from owner Thierry Valette. Less exuberant than many in the vintage, with austerity and lean musuclarity to the tannins, then unfurls to reveal fragrant peony and tomato leaf notes, sappy and mouthwatering, understated and yet fully ripe, excellent quality. Harvest September 3 to 15, certified organic and biodynamic. Ageing in 10% new oak, alongside oak casks and earthenware jarres, with 3 months in cement vats before bottling unfined. 3.35ph. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud displays a delicate yet complex bouquet with aromas of sweet cherries, loamy soils, iris, lilac, dark berries and hints of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, charming and fleshy, with powdery tannins, it's penetrating and saline. The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud should be outstanding. It has a forward, juicy, sexy style in its red, blue, and black fruits as well as medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, notes of smoked tobacco, chocolate, and earth, ripe tannins, and great finish.
