A red with a full, juicy palate of ripe tannins and dark fruit. Some black licorice, too. It’s velvety and flavorful. Luscious young red. - James Suckling
The 2019 Couhins is a deep, powerful wine. Inky dark blue fruit, gravel, smoke, licorice and scorched earth give the 2019 a distinctly inward, brooding character. The firm tannins need time to soften, but the 2019 has much to offer. In the early going, Couhins packs a lot of punch. It is a powerful, seriously tannic wine that will require at least some cellaring. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
A lighter frame than many Pessacs in this vintage, this is enjoyable and well expressed. Will be ready to drink in three to four years and last a good 15 to 20, as there are plentiful black fruits and well-judged extraction of tannins and acidity. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038 - Jane Anson, Decanter
A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 54% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Couhins came in at 14% alcohol and is being aged in French oak barrels, 33% new, for approximately 12 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes wafting out of the glass with fragrant notions of lavender, wild thyme and raspberry leaves over a core of black cherries, mulberries and redcurrant jelly. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rugged, chewy frame and a lively backbone supporting the red and back fruit flavors, finishing with an herbal lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate
The flagship 2019 Château Couhins is similarly colored and has beautiful red and black currants, tobacco, chocolate, and spicy incense aromas and flavors. With considerable elegance, medium to full body, and a great finish, it's going to keep for 15 years. - Jeb Dunnuck
