Desaunay-Bissey Vosne-Romanee les Beaux Monts 1er Cru 2015 (750ML)
Critic Scores, Reviews & Descriptions
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, which hails from 80-year-old vines, offers up a brooding bouquet of plums, black cherry, espresso roast, blood orange, game bird and rich soil that is classic Beaux Monts. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and layered, with fine-grained but firm tannins which assert themselves on the long, sappy finish. This will need some time in the cellar, but it's very promising, and an open bottle held up and indeed evolved beautifully over several days.
This was my first encounter with the wines of Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey, which exploits an interesting portfolio of old-vine parcels, and avoids excesses of new oak and extraction. The wines are very true to their appellations, with creamy old-vine concentration and excellent balance. A visit here will be high on my agenda during my next visit to Burgundy.
