In the top 1-2 wines of the vintage, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a Mourvedre shifted blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah that saw 16 months in 60% small barrels, with the balance in concrete tanks. There’s just over 400 cases produced and this inky colored, beautifully concentrated effort offers loads of roasted meats, licorice, chocolate and sweet black fruits. Seamless, sexy and seamless, with uncommon polish and ripeness to its tannin, it will have 10-15+ years of longevity. - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate
Dark and winey, with lots of melted licorice notes coating the core of steeped plum, blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. A nice brambly spine drives the finish, with sage, tobacco and tar filling in as well. Long echo of warm brick too. Lots of range and depth here. Best from 2018 through 2028. 250 cases made. - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator
Opaque ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, lavender, vanilla and smoky Indian spices, accompanied by a bright mineral quality in the background. Velvety and expansive on the palate, offering alluringly sweet and deeply concentrated black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and blueberry flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Closes spicy and extremely long, showing lingering florality and harmonious tannins. - Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
