Before establishing his domaine in 1982 Bernard Fouquet worked for a number of producers in Alsace and Burgundy. He rapidly established himself as one of the new stars of Vouvray, especially with his very fine 1989 and 1990 wines which have aged beautifully. Fouquet's work in the both his vineyards and winery is meticulous. The early drinking Cuvée Silex comes from vines planted on clay-flint soils known locally as Perruches. Vinification is in stainless steel. Tasted in late January this had fine ripe fruit with notes of quince with vibrant, racy acidity in the finish. - Decanter
