91 Burghound ‘Sweetspot’ Outstanding/92 WA
The cool, restrained and beautifully layered nose is rife with Chablis character, indeed this could basically not be mistaken for anything else as the iodine and oyster shell nuances are a dead giveaway on the mostly green fruit and citrus-inflected aromas. There is first-rate concentration to the intense and muscular medium weight flavors that possess plenty of salinity on the delicious, clean and markedly dry finale. As is usually the case this is not a refined wine but I certainly like the bold delivery and intense flavor authority.
he 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Vau de Vey was cropped at 68 hectoliters per hectare and saw 40% aged in oak barrels, the rest in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. It has a very appealing wet limestone and sea spray bouquet, reserved but well defined and displaying fine typicité. The palate is well balanced and full of energy. There is a brightness to this Vau de Vey, with impressive fruit concentration and an intense citric finish. This is an excellent Chablis from winemaker Guenolé Breteaudeau.
