In this wine, the tannins are velvety, with black fruits that are immensely concentrated. The texture and powerful tannins provide superb foils for the fruit. Drink from 2027. Organic and biodynamic. - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of blackberries, black olives, lead pencil and blueberries. Full-bodied with very velvety tannins. It’s big and rich for Margaux, but then it tightens at the finish. It will come around with bottle age. One for the cellar. 88% cabernet sauvignon and 12% merlot. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try after 2026. - James Suckling

The 2020 Durfort-Vivens is a dense, concentrated wine, just as it was en primeur. Blackberry jam, grilled herbs, lavender, menthol and chocolate are some of the many notes that build as the 2020 shows off its breadth and sheer power. Striking inner perfume and sweet aromatics lend an exotic flair that is so distinctive. Superb. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

The 2020 Durfort Vivens has turned out beautifully, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark cherries and berries mingled with hints of licorice, baking chocolate and mint. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, it's layered and concentrated, with lively acids and broad structural shoulders, its generous endowment of powdery tannin asserting itself on the youthfully firm finish. More tightly wound than the extroverted, charming 2019, the 2020 will demand patience, but it's a very strong performance for this estate. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Beautiful depth and character of fruit here, understated power, lilac, peony, wet stones, blackcurrant, slate tannins, edges of oyster shell and rosemary spice. This has density without weight. Showcases the seriousness of the vintage, with its wall of tannins, but they have become more supple over ageing. Excellent wine, an upscore from En Primeur. 40% of production in the Grand Vin (this has been brought down significantly with the arrival of the plot-focused wines from the 2019 vintage, as before owner Gonzargue Lurton was regularly producing 70% Grand Vin). 66% new oak, with the rest aged in amphora, 3.65ph. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

More structured and tannic than 2019 or 2018 but still with an explosion of fruit. Floral and dark-fruit notes. Ripe but fresh with crunchy fruit on the palate and fine-grained tannins. Mouth-watering, saline finish. Potential to age. - Jancis Robinson
