#26 James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of the Andes 2017
This is crazy and deep with such an incredible depth of fruit and character. Full body, layered and dense. Yet energetic and vibrant. Focused and precise. Love. Drink in 2020. - James Suckling
Deep bright ruby. More brooding on the nose than the Agrelo examples, offering slightly inky aromas of dark berries, smoke, licorice, violet and minerals. Sweet, velvety and quite suave but penetrating too, offering terrific acid grip and inner-mouth violet lift. Still shows a touch of reduction but the finish displays noble tannins and outstanding length. Incidentally, winemaker Alejandro Vigil does not believe in post-fermentation maceration; these wines spend 17 to 20 days on their skins, beginning with a cold soak lasting 3 to 5 days. - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media
After a few bottles from 2012, the 2013 Gran Enemigo Chacayes Single Vineyard felt quite ripe and a little earthy. This is the second vintage of this single-vineyard wine from a young vineyard inside The Vines of Mendoza complex. The vineyard was planted in 2006, so it's still very young, and it was harvested in two tries. There is some 15% Malbec to complement the Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied and soft, with ripe flavors and a round, lush texture. This is a bit ripe for the style of Gran Enemigo. 6,000 bottles produced. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate
