Just the upper plot is retained for the 1er Cru bottling. 60% whole bunch. and three new barrels out of five. Fine mid purple, beautifully perfumed again, does not show the extra whole bunch because there is even more pure fruit. Little floral notes but in dark flowers. Ripely seductive, even a chocolate note, a good idea to have picked when they did. Tasted: November 2020 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy
These old vines of the holding in Brûlées were planted on either side of the D109 road in the 1950s by René Engel. 60% of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters and the wine shows dark, plummy fruit, with a slightly bitter note that adds pleasurably to the richness of the wine. It is concentrated and extracted, but still in elegant balance, and should age well. Drinking Window 2024 - 2049. Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
Note: from a 1.16 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines; there are two sections, one upper and one lower and this cuvée now uses only the upper portion; 70% whole clusters
Tasting note: A markedly more restrained nose reluctantly offers up its notably spicy aromas of dark cherry, sandalwood and plenty of floral influences. Once again, the texture of the medium-bodied flavors is super-sleek with a taut muscularity that carries over to the mineral-driven, chiseled and compact finale. I very much like the balance though the firm tannic spine will need 12+ years to resolve. Worth a look. Outstanding - Allen Meadows - Burghound
