Rich dense purple. The nose is fabulous and intriguing because on the one hand is skilled winemaking and the feel of a sunny, ripe vintage. On the other, the natural pure classy character of the vineyard is clearly there to see. Certainly the fruit is ripe and there are some black notes at the finish, with a balanced little tingle of acidity, even a saline note. Very long fine finish. Tasted: November 2019 Jasper Morris – Inside Bugundy
Perfumed and sumptuous, Fourrier's 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of plums and raspberries, complemented by notions of violets, peonies and blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's suave and seamless, with succulent acids, velvety tannins and a rose-inflected finish. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is blessed with a very detailed bouquet of crushed stone intermixed with dark cherries, raspberry and hints of pain d’épices and gingerbread. You could keep nosing this all day. The palate is succulent on the entry, and the fleshy red fruit is infused with orange peel and marmalade. The slightly confit finish is quintessentially Fourrier. Very good length – but does the Combe Aux Moines dare to steal Clos Saint-Jacques’s crown this year? -- Neal Martin – Vinous Media
Tasting note: An exuberantly fresh nose offers relatively high-toned notes of wild red cherry, pomegranate and currant that are liberally laced with earth, spice and discreet oak hints. There is once again good vibrancy to the generously proportioned and fleshy medium-bodied flavors that display fine power and plenty of minerality on the youthfully austere finale that is also very clearly built-to-age. Sweet Spot – Outstanding – Allen Meadows - Burghound
The nose draws you into the glass: crushed rocks, spice, bright cranberry and red-cherry fruit, dried herbs … layer after layer. Juicy, with plenty of fruit density, fairly fine, primary tannins and great length. A very fine young burgundy – though it should be at this price! (TJ) Im Jackson MW – Jancis Robinson
