The 2018 Franc-Mayne has a clean and precise bouquet with intense red cherry and blackcurrant aromas, the oak nicely integrated here. The palate is clean and precise, quite linear in style but that allows the complexity of this Saint-Émilion to shine through on the tense and edgy finish. This is a great Franc-Mayne that should age with style. Bravo.
The 2018 Château Franc Mayne checks in as 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and if this barrel sample holds, it will certainly be the finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate. Elegant and complex notes of black raspberries, black cherries, flowers, and obvious minerality all flow to a medium to full-bodied Saint-Émilion that has wonderful purity of fruit, a fresh, lively texture, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s going to evolve beautifully for 15-20 years.-Jeb Dunnuck
Made of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Franc-Mayne gives up notions of baked plums, warm black and red cherries and blueberry compote with touches of cedar chest, bay leaves and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, it has plenty of juicy fruit in the mouth with a rounded tannin texture and fantastic freshness, finishing earthy.-Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate
Slightly stewed fruit to this, but some attractive depth of fruit and ripe tannins. Finishes strong at the end. - James Suckling
This is a good quality 2018 - they are doing a good job of getting big, rich, insistent fruits without slapping on the oak or hitting the extraction pedal too hard. It has bold, bright red and black fruits, showing good balance although it's unquestionably big and punchy.-Jane Anson, Decanter
