Raspberry and cherry with their distilled Doppelganger; pistachio and almond extract; medicinal herbal essences; and quarry dust constitute the aromatic and palate complexity of Bertheau’s 2007 Bonnes Mares. A marrow-like sense of meaty richness emerges as it takes on air, and hints of fruit pit as well as abundant fine tanning lend a (for the vintage) surprising but not unwelcome note of austerity to an impressively long finish. Expect this to be worth following for the better part of a decade. --David Schildknecht, The Wine Advocate
Tasting note: A cool but equally layered nose is a blend of blue pinot fruit, cherry and earth with background hints of clove and anise that are also picked up by the supple but focused and powerful medium full flavors that are delicious yet serious while possessing excellent depth and length. This is not a big Bonnes Mares but there is muscle present all the same and it will require a few years in the cellar first to really display its full potential. A poised and stylish Bonnes Mares.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
