Well marked by sweet oak, this red nonetheless offers ample black cherry, plum, earth and iron flavors that should emerge with bottle age. It also has a solid grip of tannins that curtail the finish for now. Best from 2025 through 2045. 100 cases imported. — BS, Wine Spectator
Producer note: As is usually the case, Frédéric Esmonin didn't have much to say about the 2018 growing season beyond that he was happy to have a vintage that "gave us both fine quality and very good quantity which were even better than 2017. We picked from the 3rd of September and the fruit was ripe and clean so it was relatively easy to process. Potential alcohols were also very good, ranging from 12.8 to 13.6%. We did our normal vinification and élevage and then bottled the wines in August 2019. I like the 2018s and we hope that our clients do as well"—Allen Meadows, Burghound
Bottled. Delightfully floral rose-petal lift, intermingled with vanilla and fresh earth. Liquorice and red cherry wrap around moderate, slightly grainy tannins. This should evolve to something very nice indeed. (TJ)-Jancis Robinson
