Note: originally planted in 1902 but the average age has declined as a number of vines have had to be replanted recently
Tasting note: A slightly more elegant nose is noticeably more floral-inflected on the array of red and dark pinot fruit, spice and humus-tinged earth. The more refined if slightly less concentrated middle weight flavors are juicy and succulent before culminating in a dusty, delicious and lingering finale. This will need to add depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range. Allen Meadows – Burghound

The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Gravains 1er Cru (and it is Aux Gravains, not Les Gravains!) has a very candied, floral bouquet with orange sorbet and marmalade notes infusing the red fruit. Maybe a little too showy at this stage? The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins. This includes 70% whole cluster that is nigh impossible to detect, though I feel it does impart freshness and tension on the pliant finish. Neal Martin – Vinous Media

Planted 1902. Lively mid purple, with rather sensual fruit on the nose. Perhaps a touch raisiny though the fruit certainly fills the mouth. It is the same plant material seemingly as La Richemone, with long stems and little berries, very little juice, but has got a touch riper here. Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy
