Focused and full of energy, this full-bodied red starts off with inviting aromas of red berry, camphor and baking spice. Reflecting the nose, the savory, structured palate delivers pomegranate, blood orange, cinnamon and ginger framed in firm tannins. Drink 2026–2038. Abv: 15% Kerin O’Keefe
The 2018 Barolo Perno Vigna Santo Stefano comes from a site between Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba that maintains slightly cooler temperatures overall. Although Monprivato is the vineyard site most closely associated with the Mascarello family, they also have extensive experience farming here. In fact, the Mascarello family was among the first to draw importance to Perno. This wine shows a rich texture and darker aromas that tend to veer toward chestnut, hazelnut, truffle and dark fruit.-Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
The Vigna Santo Stefano in Perno has varied soil types with clay made of bluish marl, and it produces structured wines, rich in flavors and tannin. Among the wines in our portfolio, we consider it to be a more muscular and masculine wine.
