The 2019 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is matured with 50% new oak and 100% whole bunch, the pruning having changed from cordon to Guyot simple in 2018. It has a lovely bouquet of orange-peel- and marmalade-infused red berry fruit, fine mineralité and wonderful definition. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Quite savory in style, leading to a slightly austere finish that should gain a little more flesh with bottle age. This is a classy offering that will need 4–5 years to show its full potential. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Meida
Note: from a .28 ha parcel of 30+ year old vines in Calouère - the first vintage was 1979; vinified with 50% whole clusters
Tasting note: A more subtle dollop of wood frames the more elegant and spicier aromas of wonderfully spicy black cherry, poached plum and a plethora of floral nuances. Not surprisingly, the mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is notably finer, indeed it's seductive and classy, though the focused and tautly muscular finish tightens up considerably. This youthfully austere effort is packed with development potential and a wine that will need at least 7 to 8 years first. Drink 2034+. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
