A full crimson purple, a fine robe if not excessively deep. The bouquet is not yet ready to speak, brilliantly nuanced on the palate, with an appropriate density. You have to wait for each individual flavour to come out, alpine strawberry, sweet red cherry, then the finest and most distinguished of raspberries. All you could want and still really light on its feet. But just two barrels. Drink from 2030-2040+. Tasted: November 2022.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru comprises of two barrels this year (one new, one 2-year-old). It has a beautifully-defined bouquet, very pure and intense, easily the most concentrated of all Grivot’s cuvées. Baked cherries, bergamot and a touch of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine
acidity, focused with a pliant finish that lingers long in the mouth, leaving a saline residue that urges you to take another sip. Proper Richebourg!—Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Note: from Richebourg proper
Tasting note: This possesses the spiciest nose in the range with its array of sandalwood, anise, clove, jasmine tea and cool black cherry and hoisin scents. The succulent, round and very generously proportioned big-bodied flavors that display focused power and muscle on the mineral-driven, palate soaking and superbly long finish. This youthfully austere effort is markedly compact, and I would strongly suggest not even thinking of opening a bottle before its 10th anniversary. Terrific. Don’t Miss.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
