A glowing crimson purple. A certain nobility to the nose. A brilliant combination of hedonism and precision, the expressive dense floral notes, waves of perfectly ripe red fruit, and that’s just the bouquet. Suave, sweetly fruited, nuanced, yet never losing site of the grace and the depth. Caresses all parts. Seamless finish with perfect acid and tannin balance. Drink from 2034-2045+. Tasted: November 2023.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Note: from Richebourg proper
Tasting note: Much like the VRBM, the cool, airy and strikingly well-layered nose is overtly floral-suffused while displaying additional liqueur-like aromas of essence of red and dark currant, poached plum and exotic tea wisps. There is already superb depth to the wonderfully sleek and solidly dense broad-shouldered flavors that possess a wonderfully beguiling texture before terminating a well-balanced, youthfully austere and stunningly long finish, indeed this offers the best length in the range. It is however very much built to repay extended keeping so be prepared to cellar it accordingly. Brilliant. Don’t Miss!—Allen Meadows, Burghound
The 2022 Richebourg Grand Cru comprises six barrels this year, three new and three second fill. It opens slowly in the glass, unveiling intense red berry, black truffle and light loamy scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and balsamic-tinged red fruit, gaining depth towards the finish that fans out as Richebourg should. Tasted from old barrels and as a new/old barrel cuvée assembled by Etienne Grivot. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
