Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 La Couspaude prances out of the glass with compelling notes of raspberry pie, plum preserves and ripe black cherries, followed by hints of baking spices, rose oil and sandalwood, plus a waft of anise. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers rich, spicy red and black berry preserves flavors, backed up by bold freshness and velvety tannins, finishing on a fragrant earth note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Lots of spicy, earthy black fruits, tobacco, and a touch of leafy herbs emerge from the 2020 Château La Couspaude, and it plays in the medium-bodied side of the spectrum, with firm, grippy tannins balanced by good mid-palate depth and density. We’ll see where the tannins wind up, but this could easily be an outstanding wine. I don’t see it matching the 2018, however. - Jeb Dunnuck
