Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 La Couspaude motors out with powerful notes of baked black plums, blueberry compote, and chocolate-covered cherries, leading to an undercurrent of tar, licorice, and iris bulb. Full-bodied, rich, and powerful in the mouth, it has beautifully soft, rounded tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with a provocative lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
A crunchy and creamy textured wine with blackberry and orange peel character. Open tannins. Medium body. Salty and fruity finish. Nice presence to this. - James Suckling
Smells intense and ripe on the nose. Bright and fun on the palate, more of a focus on the fruit intensity and clarity than the overall structure with clean and fresh strawberries and raspberries with barely there tannins, just giving a delicate but fine and firm grip to the palate. Really well worked, nicely refined no doubt, juicy and really alive in the glass, but missing some density and texture. However, great for early drinking and lots of enjoyment to be had here. A yield of 30hl/ha. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
Another impressive Saint-Emilion is the 2022 Château La Couspaude, which has a terrific perfume of spiced red and black fruits and assorted spicy, dried herb notes. With good overall freshness, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and outstanding length, it should easily wind up being an outstanding wine, and it might even match the brilliant 2018. - Jeb Dunnuck
