Critic Scores, Reviews & Descriptions
The 2000 La Doyenne reveals a Cheval Blanc-like blackberry/cranberry, menthol bouquet as well as a creamy texture, admirable glycerin, and a layered mouthfeel. It is a rich, medium-weight effort with significant fruit and character for a wine in this price range. This has been a perennial choice over recent years as one of the best of the low level Bordeaux wines that sell for a song. A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, with malolactic in barrel, this plump, medium-bodied 2000 shows plum, cocoa, cherry, and chocolatey notes, dense, medium-bodied flavors, and loads of fruit and glycerin. It is a hedonistic Bordeaux. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
Gorgeous blackberry and cherry aromas follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a polished, caressing finish. - Wine Spectator
