A bright, fresh red with crunchy character, showing coffee, chocolate and berries. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. One of the most refined Papes. - James Suckling

Le Pape's 7th vintage under the Haut-Bailly umbrella, now well and truly into its stride. This is structured and intense, the raspberry fruit ripe and rich with pencil lead and ash giving balance, and a fresh lift that makes it overall super friendly and inviting. Harvest September 30 to October 11. - Jane Anson, Decanter

Made by the team at Château Haut-Bailly and a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Château Le Pape should be snatched up by readers, as it's not only going to represent a great value but will drink well in its youth yet evolve gracefully. Rocking cassis and black raspberry fruit as well as tobacco and leafy herbs all define the bouquet, and this medium to full-bodied beauty has a plush, mouthfilling texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

Barrel Sample. There is an important structural element to this wine, with a strong layer of tannins over the bold black currant fruits. There is also a juicy, jammy character that comes from the 80% Merlot in the blend. It's a ripe wine for medium-term aging. - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

The 2019 Le Pape was picked 30 September to 11 October. Deep ruby in colour, it has a clean and precise, almost Burgundy-like bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and subtle loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly creamytextured opening that belies that structure underneath, then it segues into a distinctly saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. Excellent. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
