A beautifully sited vineyard planted 1948 located just below the ‘heart’ of Clos de la Roche. Often very close to Grand cru in quality and depth.
(Lignier is the largest owner in this premier cru and made 15 barrels of Faconnières in 2014): Good dark red. Subdued but pure aromas of raspberry, espresso and Indian spices. Still a bit youthfully imploded but concentrated and vibrant, showing lovely definition to its berry, mineral and spice flavors. In a distinctly elegant style, with very well-judged use of stems. Finishing firm, lively and long, this wine makes the young 2015 version seem heavy by comparison.-- Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media
Note: from 60+ year old vines, 50% whole cluster
Tasting note: An expressive, dense and markedly floral nose is quite ripe but with good freshness on the red and dark berry fruit, earthy and gamy aromas. There is terrific power and concentration to the stony, muscular and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that deliver huge length on the impressively complex and youthfully austere finale. Like its 2015 counterpart, this is a really lovely combination of power and refinement though patience will definitely be required. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
