#93 Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2020

This wine opens with a subtle blend of black and Morello cherry on the nose, surrounded by slight smokiness. Ripeness is evident in the black cherry note and also manifests itself on the juicy but firm palate. A hint of chocolate and an edge of tar back the dark intensity of the fruit that is bedded in dense, ripe tannins. It's an elegant, full-bodied wine with gorgeous aroma and a promising future. Drink 2025–2040.  - AK, Wine Enthusiast

Complex and suave, this red is powerful and features cherry, raspberry, plum and spice flavors. The oak leaves it a little rigid on the finish today, yet this remains balanced, long and expansive on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2045. From France. - BS, Wine Spectator

I continue to just love these 2018 Red Burgundies, and the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques doesn't disappoint, offering an incredibly pure, focused, yet concentrated style carrying ample bright berry fruits, spring flowers, spice, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a terrific spine of acidity, ripe, yet ultra-fine tannins, and just about flawless balance. It shows the ripe style of the vintage yet is pure, fresh, and focused. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 20 years or more. Jeb Dunnuck

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet that just pips the Cazetiers for precision and poise. This is detailed and very finely tuned, the oak married perfectly with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and very well-judged acidity, almost sorbet-fresh. The vivacious blood-orange-infused finish seems to shimmer. This is a great Clos Saint-Jacques from Louis Jadot. Neal Martin – Vinous Media

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is a beautiful wine in the making, revealing an incipiently complex bouquet that mingles aromas of smoky berry fruit, cassis and orange rind with nuances of peony, espresso roast, rich soil tones and black truffle. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with excellent concentration, fine structuring tannins that are largely concealed by the wine's wealth of fruit and a long, perfumed finish. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate

Rich dense purple. Quite high octane. Quince and mulberry. A rich sweet compote of dark fruit, blackberry, mulberry, blackcurrant, with the vineyard precision just showing underneath. Which way will this go? Jasper Morris – Inside Bugundy

Tasting note: More discreet but hardly invisible wood sets off the equally pure and very pretty nose that consists of liqueur-like red berry fruit, pungent earth, floral and sauvage wisps. The sleek, beautifully delineated and punchy medium-bodied flavors reveal ample minerality on the focused if youthfully austere finish that is shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins. This is a CSJ of focused power and what should prove to be a long potential aging curve. Sweet Spot – Outstanding – Allen Meadows - Burghound
