This is an early-ripening spot where the grapes can rot, so need to keep an eye on it. The nose is noble without the rot part. This has a Montceau feel in terms of concentration and balance. Huge intensity behind, good acidity ripe greengage, a light lemon touch, not the limestone bench white fruit style it can sometimes be, but there’s an awful lot going on here. It really needs time, after which it might just merit the fifth star. Tasted: October 2021.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is another highlight, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, pear and frangipane. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's rich but tensile, its enveloping core of fruit girdled by racy acids and chalky structuring extract. It's the finest Vide Bourse I can remember tasting chez Colin.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
