Gold-tinged straw. Deep, very pure nose hints at white peach, minerals and flowers. A noticeable step up in depth and complexity over the preceding Riesling samples, boasting impressive flavor intensity for such a refined wine. Finishes multilayered, deep and long. This should prove to be especially ageworthy. The Muenchberg features especially complex soil made up of a blend of sandstone and volcanic elements. According to Ostertag, this is an ideal amalgamation. Wines made only on sandstone can be a little obvious, and those on volcanic soils a little austere, he told me, so the combination of the two usually makes for some really amazing wines.- Ian D'Agata 92 pts
