Now this is a beautiful wine, flirting with perfection. A deep brown mahogany hue. The nose is divine: warm, rounded and inviting. Sweet red berried fruits, a touch of mocha and roasted herbs. Wonderful delineation and grace. The palate excedes my expectations, for despite the name I never expected this to flirt with perfection. Ripe, sumptuous red fruits, concentrated, focused with perfect acidity and balance. A hint of dark chocolate, even a slight gamey quality towards the wild strawberry tinged finish. If wine is meant to be enjoyed than this does that and more. At its peak now. Tasted October 2005. - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate
A monumental wine, with lots of structure. Not quite as great as the '61, but classic just the same. Medium ruby-garnet in color, with black olive and chocolate aromas. Full-bodied, with full, hard tannins and a very long, tough finish. Should improve.--1959 Bordeaux horizontal. James Suckling, Wine Spectator
