The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is bright and piercing, as it so often is, and yet it also has more than enough fruit to fill out its mid-weight, energetic frame. Pine, mint, crushed rocks and sweet red plum build into the huge, piercing finish. The Ovello is another wine in this range that demands patience. Even in the early going it is super impressive. The 2014 s an unusually dense, packed Ovello. It should be terrific in another few years' time. Antonio Galloni – Vinous Media

My preview tasting of the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello reveals a wine of beautiful intensity and impressive potential. The cooler 2014 summer season has helped to develop greater acidity that holds the fiber of this wine tightly together. The 2013 vintage is velvetier in comparison, with looser stitching in its fiber. Instead, the 2014 vintage shows a very polished, firm and tonic personality. I tasted this sample after bottling, but the wine will hit the market toward the end of this year. This Barbaresco Riserva will require extra cellar time to relax and unwind. - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Lovely aromas of perfumed berry, rose petal, aromatic herb and baking spice set the tone on this fragrant red. The ethereally elegant, medium-bodied palate is all about finesse and balance, delivering succulent red cherry, juicy raspberry, cinnamon and a dash of white pepper. It's nicely balanced, with polished tannins and fresh acidity. It's already accessible but will also age well over the next several years or more. Drink through 2026. - Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Balsamic aromas of menthol, wild thyme and juniper complement the black cherry core of this muscular red, with dense tannins lending support. Though a bit more severe now than its peers, this is balanced overall and will age well. Best from 2022 through 2042.—B.S., Wine Spectator

Though the summer was cool and wet, the last rainfall in Barbaresco was on 12 August. Harvest started exactly two months later, allowing the grapes to ripen under much improved conditions. Quantities were down 30%, but quality was high enough for Produttori to craft their cru Riservas. Bottled 20 days prior to tasting, the 2014 is uncharacteristically forward with a veritable explosion of red cherry. Enchanting notes of rose petal, violet, blood orange peel and pepper follow. Bright acidity accentuates the tannins, but they are fine and dissolve effortlessly. While this comes across as approachable now, it might shut down in bottle and I'd give it some time following its release next spring. I suspect it will be a mid-term rather than a long ager. - Michaela Morris, Decanter
